Fantastic stay to experience Goa as an insider

July 29, 2026

Our stay at Cancio’s House was undoubtedly the highlights of my husband’s and my recent trip to Goa. More than just a beautiful place to stay, it felt like being welcomed into a living piece of Goan history.

A heartfelt thank you to Roberto and Raquel for their extraordinary warmth and hospitality. They have done something truly special by opening the doors of their magnificent 450-year-old family home while preserving its history, architecture and soul with such love and care.

The family’s personal touch is evident in everything they do. From offering to drop us to the city to the beautifully prepared breakfasts each morning, every detail made us feel genuinely cared for. Breakfast became something we looked forward to every day, not just for the delicious food, but for the warmth and generosity with which it was served. As well as so many memorable conversations about life, beliefs and the world we’re living in… all of which makes this feel like home rather than an ‘accommodation’

Every room, every object and every conversation reflected a deep respect for Goa’s rich heritage. Roberto and Raquel are not simply preserving a remarkable old house, a gorgeous garden with stunning trees and plants, they are keeping a part of Goa’s history alive and generously sharing it with those fortunate enough to stay there. And the rooms and bathrooms are indeed spotless and perfectly maintained, down to the spotless grouting in the bathroom (this is the ultimate proof of a well maintained house!)

If you’re looking for an authentic, thoughtful and unforgettable experience in Goa, I couldn’t recommend Cancio’s House more highly. Thank you, Roberto and Raquel, for your kindness, generosity and passion for what you do. We left with wonderful memories and hope to return again.

Perfect and peaceful gem

We are extremely glad we found this little gem tucked away in a Goan village. Our family of four had a wonderful stay in this charming villa, which feels like a museum in itself.

We truly enjoyed the space and the warm, homely environment, it made us feel instantly welcomed and comfortable. The meals cooked by Raquel were delicious and added so much to the experience of staying here.

We were impressed by the beautiful garden maintained by Roberto and his knowledge and love for plants. There are so many varieties for plant lovers, with fruits and flowering plants all around. Exploring the garden and learning about the different plants was a delightful experience.

My husband even spotted a hornbill outside the house. The rich flora and fauna around the property is incredible, and I only wish we had more time to explore it all.

It’s a perfect place to soak in the peace, spend more time with nature, and ground yourself after the rush of city life.

Perfect

We had such a lovely 4 night stay in this wonderful homestay in the pretty and peaceful village of Aldona in the North Goan hinterland. Roberto and Raquel are such kind, hospitable hosts – they made us feel very welcome. Their beautiful family home is over 500 years old and has been lovingly restored by them over the years. Our accommodation was peaceful and comfortable in a corner of the beautiful lush garden. It was a treat to wake to all the birdsong in the morning. Raquel is an amazing cook and we ate extremely well every morning and evening. Highly recommend Cancio’s House if you are coming to Goa and would like a more authentic experience of life here.

Wonderful and Different Vibes

February 2, 2026

We stayed at Cancio’s House from 18th to 20th January 2026. It is an amazing place to stay. Full of greenery. We go for a long walk during the day. We also found a small stream where locals were fishing for time pass.

Roberto is a great host. Always ready to help you. He was there everywhere – watering the plants, helping in the kitchen, singing with guitar.

Raquel (Mrs Roberto) served a sumptuous lunch on the day we arrived. She is a great cook. She prepared excellent soup at dinner. The chocolate cake she baked at home for my wife’s birthday was a great surprise for us.

Harman, Antenio and Raffel (3 sons of Roberto) were helping their parents in different chores. Harman sang and played guitar for birthday songs for my wife.

Roberto’s mother and mother in law were great companies in the house.

A little cutie (daughter of one of the 2 helps) liven up the atmosphere.

For one day, we hired scooty from Jeetu and roamed in Aldano. A quick lunch on the bank of Mapusa river at Mhambrey Bar (on the other side of St Thomas Church) was refreshing.

Overall it was a great experience.

We have been visiting this place since 2016 – and have known the hosts Roberto and Raquel for a decade now. They are so warm and welcoming that we feel like extending our stay very time we visit them . Cancios house is a beautiful home stay tucked away in the small village of Aldona away from all the noise , you feel close to nature and you spend peaceful time there. Among all other good reasons to stay with them , the most attractive one being Raquel’s home cooked meals which will make your core memories there.

We arrived middle of the night from the nearby northern airport and directly fell in love with this gorgeous homestay. Raquel and Roberto are excellent hosts, who made us feel home like nowhere else. We had so many great and fun conversations. Raquels cooking is to die for. Next time we definitely stay more than 3 nights.

We have stayed at 4 locations in our GOA trip but Cancio’s house stay was most unique and memorable having close exploration of Goan village life. Peaceful and calm place surrounded by lavish greenery. Morning has a different vibes having bird chirping and fresh aroma. About host, Mr Roberto and Mrs Raquel has hosted us greatly. Home cooked meals were having a great taste having flavor of love. If one want to know Goan culture closely, this place is perfect destination. My both kids enjoyed company of their pets. In short, Vibes of this place is totally different. If one is in a Goa, must stay place in a travel plan. Thanks to Mr Roberto and his family for a great memories. Regards.

Unforgettable memories at Cancio guesthouse

We stayed at Cancio’s Guesthouse during our wedding in Goa, and the experience was wonderful from start to finish. The guesthouse is serene, clean, and full of authentic Goan warmth. What meant the most to us was the thoughtful preparation the hosts (Mr Roberto and Mrs Rakheil) did for our first night after the wedding , such a sweet and meaningful gesture that made our stay even more special. Their kindness and attention to detail truly stood out. We highly recommend Cancio’s Guesthouse to anyone visiting Goa.
